HARTFORD (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities in Van Buren County have released the name of the man killed in a bizarre farm accident near Hartford Friday morning.
Dead is 35-year-old John Garth Cummings of Middleville. Deputies say he was a contract worker assigned by a Grand Rapids firm to conduct testing at the Red Arrow Dairy Farm.
They say he was near a thirty foot high stack of corn silage when for unknown reasons some the cattle feed broke away from the stack falling onto the victim.
Cummings was dug out of the pile by a co-worker and resuscitation efforts were begun, but he could not be revived.
He was transported to Watervliet Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has joined the investigation.
