KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo City Commission has approved a $15-million dollar upgrade and overhaul at the city’s wastewater plant to replace equipment that is wearing out or failing and to address the biggest problem at the place, that it really has an odor problem.
If you have ever driven by the place on the northeast side, it’s nasty. There have been complaints for years about the odor.
Public Works Director James Baker says it includes several upgrades that should address the smell, and make the plant work more efficiently.
In a memo to city commissioners, baker says it’s a concern “not only for providing a safe working atmosphere for city staff, but also to be a good neighbor.”
