KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Thanks to a 2.1-million dollar grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, WMU finally has the financing to complete their west side business park.
They need to install the roads and utilities to turn a former apple orchard just west of Drake Road into “BTR-2,” an extension of the original Business, Technology and Research Park, which is now full.
They could fit 7 to 10 new businesses on the parcel.
Even before it was proposed, agreements were reached to protect the Asylum Lake Preserve and natural features on the property itself, including a rare orchid and a bat colony.
They hope to start burying pipe, running wires and paving streets in the spring.
