BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Battle Creek City Hall has a $2.4-million shortfall in their current budget.
It seems they will be getting less reimbursement than they hoped from the state which promised full restitution as they transition away from personal property taxes for local businesses.
City Manager Rebecca Fleury is looking at alternatives, notifying commissioners that it may mean program cuts and permanent layoffs.
There is a possibility they could dip into reserves or close a fire station or make other moves.
They will talk about it in January and consider their options.
Their budget year is already half way over so the shortfall will have to come out of whatever funding they have remaining in the $48-million spending plan.
