KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County Administrator Kevin Catlin recently lost his sister to domestic violence, and he is thanking the community for the support he has received.
31-year-old Jasmine Dejournette was beaten to death earlier this month in DeKalb, Illinois. Her boyfriend has been charged with first degree murder.
Catlin told the county board that it’s been a devastating time for him and his family.
He says he has received a large outpouring of sympathy from his adopted community.
He urges anyone who thinks they are in danger of being victimized by domestic violence or knows someone who is, to seek help.
The Kalamazoo YWCA has domestic abuse programs and shelters. Their emergency crisis line is available 24/7 at (269) 385-3587.
It can start as easily as just dialing 211.
The 24/7 National Domestic Violence Hotline is at 1-800-799-7233.
