BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Three residents of a nine-story apartment building at 231 Springview Drive had to be treated for minor smoke inhalation following a fire late Monday afternoon.
Battle Creek Fire Department crews arrived to find smoke on the first floor of the building. They discovered the fire was in the trash compactor, on the first floor in the rear of the building.
Crews quickly performed fire control and helped residents shelter in place in their apartments.
Some residents on the first floor had to be moved to the cafeteria until a damage assessment was performed, so they could return to their apartments.
A sprinkler activated on the seventh floor in the trash chute area.
The three residents who suffered smoke inhalation were treated at the scene and released by LifeCare Ambulance.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the BCFD Fire Marshal Division.
