KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Saying it should be easier for teachers and less expensive for the district, Kalamazoo Public Schools is looking at switching from its current trimester-based calendar to a semester-based schedule.
District officials got feedback from parents and students at a public meeting Monday.
Assistant Superintendent Craig McCane told the group district teachers are in favor of the switch.
High schools in the district moved to trimester scheduling in the fall of 2010. At the time, then-Superintendent Michael Rice said trimesters would benefit students by giving them more opportunities for electives and Advanced Placement classes, along with the ability to more easily retake failed classes.
Most other districts in Kalamazoo County currently operate on the semester system.
