KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says he plans to get the new year off to a fast start with a series of community meetings to discuss important topics.
First up will be a community discussion on whether or not the district should return to traditional semesters, dropping the trimester schedule they have been on for the last few years.
The first session on that will be on January 6th.
On the 13th, Slade has a training session planned on the district’s digital report card system, and on the 21st, the first of three sessions to discuss installing metal detectors at the high schools and middle schools.
“We’re just talking about the possibility of doing it and no final decision has been made,” says Slade. “We will have a few community meetings and no question will be off-limits and no comment will be off-limits.”
He says a more extensive schedule of public meetings on their draft strategic plan will be held in March and April.
Slade says they are continuing to receive input on the future location of El Sol Elementary. A decision on that is planned to be made in January.
