KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Detectives are waiting for autopsy results on the body of a seven-month-old girl to determine whether it warrants further investigation.
Investigators say it appears the baby died while being bathed and it may have been accidental. Kalamazoo Public Safety was first on the scene at a home in the 500 block of Phelps in the Eastside Neighborhood, after a 911 call came in at 4:20 p.m. Thursday that the infant was not breathing.
CPR had already been started by the infant’s mother before the officers arrived and took over efforts to revive the child, until they could hand the infant off to Emergency Medical Technicians.
They transported the baby to Borgess Emergency but the little girl could not be revived and was pronounced dead.
A post mortem is being scheduled and Child Protective Services is also investigating. Just because it may have been unintended does not rule out the possibility of neglect.
