PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — It will be an unusually warm weekend for a January in Michigan.
It may be more of a preview of potholes to come, than an opportunity to crack out the sun screen. A warm spell has melted off most of the snow and we could see high temperatures in the 50’s through the weekend and above normal warmth well into the work week.
It’s forced the Recreation Department in the city of Portage to change its plans. They had scheduled a snowshoe hike in Schrier Park, Skating Lessons at the city rink and Ski and Snowboard lessons at Timber Ridge.
The Snow-Shoes will be changed to hiking boots, the Ice Skating depends on ice conditions, and the Timber Ridge events have been pushed back a week.
Most area ski resorts remain open, but you may want to check day to day because they can’t make any new snow under these conditions and the snow they have is melting.
