CALHOUN COUNTY (WKZO-AM) — A Pennfield Township man will be arraigned Monday after police say he arranged to buy shoes through Facebook, then allegedly used counterfeit money to pay for them.
He drove all the way to Sturgis to make the exchange.
The seller recognized that the fake cash and decided to follow the suspect. The trail would lead all the way to a home on Coolidge near North Avenue in Calhoun County’s Pennfield Township.
When police rolled up, a 42-year-old man made a run for it, but was arrested a few blocks away. A search of his pockets turned up heroin and cocaine and a search of the police data base produced several existing warrants for his arrest.
Officers took another 22-year-old man found at the home into custody on outstanding warrant, and they also identified a 21-year-old man who may also face charges.
They seized a sizable amount of the counterfiet currency at the address. The shoes were recovered and returned to the original owner.
