THREE RIVERS, MI (WTVB) – A 36-year-old man from Kalamazoo was taken into custody in St. Joseph County early Sunday morning after he was accused of leading police on a high speed chase in a stolen vehicle out of Kalamazoo County.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department says the pursuit took place at about 2:00 a.m. on U.S. 131 near Flowerfield Road.
Central Dispatch got a call from a motorist about a SUV traveling south on 131 into St Joseph County which was driving at a high rate of speed all over the road. Deputies located the vehicle and attempted to stop it but the vehicle took off.
Eventually it was pulled over near M216 where the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
The Sheriff’s Department says the driver admitted to stealing the vehicle and being intoxicated. He was lodged at the St Joseph County Jail and Deputies are seeking charges several charges. The suspect was also lodged on several outstanding warrants.
Sheriff Bradley Balk reminds citizens to not leave there vehicle running while unoccupied. It is encouraged that people call 911 when they see vehicles being driving in a reckless or careless manor.
