LAWRENCE (WKZO-AM) — A Van Buren County woman could face charges after sheriff’s deputies investigated a tip about possible animal cruelty at a trash-strewn home in the 200 block of South Exchange Street in Lawrence early Sunday.
They found the home had no power or heat, but did have three dogs locked in the basement with no food or water. The home was filthy and it was obvious the dogs had not been walked in a while.
No one was living at the home, but investigators have identified a 32-year-old woman who may be culpable for leaving them unattended. It will be left up to the prosecutor to determine if charges are warranted. The woman could potentially be tried for animal cruelty or neglect.
The dogs are being fed and cared for at the animal control unit in Van Buren County.
