PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — The Paw Paw Board of Education will hold one final hearing on a proposal to drop the “Redskins” as the name of their sports mascot, and to find another one.
Over two dozen school districts in Michigan have changed their team names because the might be considered offensive by today’s standards. It has sparked a sometimes angry debate in the community.
The aim of the board tonight is to hear from those speakers who had signed up to express their opinion at last week’s meeting, but never got a chance because one group began hurling obscenities, and the board decided to adjourn the session before it got out of hand.
The hearing will be held at 7. A decision will be made February 8th.
