KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Western Michigan University President John Dunn says he has concerns about President Trump’s executive order banning immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries.
Around 100 students at Western hail from the affected nations. They’re being told to limit travel.
“We are a global university, we do have students that are specifically impacted,” Dunn said. “We also have many other students who are international.”
Dunn also said Western, like the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, will not release the immigration status of its students unless forced to do so.
“Now, of course, we do abide by the law and there are steps the federal government can take,” Dunn said. “But we’ll wait and see if they choose to do that or not.
He says the school will not take a formal political stance on the order.
Dunn released a statement on Trump’s order on Monday.
