KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Following President Trump’s executive order banning travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries, the Diocese of Kalamazoo has reaffirmed its support for refugees, immigrants and migrants.
Bishop Paul Bradley said there’s a need for security, but also said it’s un-American and un-Christian to not help and welcome strangers.
“It’s a statement to just reaffirm our concern for them, our desire to be of assistance to them in any way we can,” Bradley said. “We’ll pray, but we’ll also work for just laws.”
He also said he’s not the only one worried.
“Within each denomination, within each of the faith communities, there’s a lot of work going on — both spiritually, but also legally,” Bradley said.
He says the order has caused anxiety and confusion within the diocese.
On Monday, Bishop Bradley released a formal statement on the issue.
