LINCOLN PARK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State officials say at least three hunters have died in Michigan during the opening week of firearm deer season.
The cause of death of 57-year-old Gregg Adkins of Lincoln Park has not been officially determined, but doctors told the family a “blood clot” or “partial heart attack” may have been the cause.
Officials did say heart attacks were the cause of death for a 65-year-old and an 83-year-old. The two hunters, who have not been publicly identified, were reportedly trying to “haul heavy animals.”
Doctors are advising hunters to consult their doctors before hunting and prepare in advance by going on an exercise or walking program. Hunters who smoke or are overweight are at greater risk.
Firearms deer season in Michigan runs through November 30.
