KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Western Michigan University (WMU) Annual Turkey Trot 5K will still be taking place this year, albeit in a virtual format under the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents will be able to participate from any location they choose and post their results individually at this link.
Runners will be participating from between November 21 and 28.
“We’re asking everyone to post all the pictures that they take after they complete their 5K or 10K, whatever selection they pick, post it on social media, and make sure to tag us @WMU_SRC,” Race Director Mike Berdowski said in an interview with WKZO Monday. “We’re asking people to use our super short hashtag of #WMUTurkeyTrot2020, and we are picking for lucky individuals to win a $25 Meijer gift card.”
Berdowski adds that there has still been a large turnout for registrants, despite the ongoing pandemic.
“We surpassed 350 people, our goal was 350, so that’s awesome,” Berdowski said. “Just curious to see how all the pictures look and what everyone is gonna do.”
Berdowski also told WKZO that he is hopeful this will be the only virtual event for the Turkey Trot going forward.
The deadline for registration has already passed, but readers can find more information about the race at WMU’s website here.
