CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Calhoun County Clerk and Register of Deeds Kimberly Hinkley says the unofficial results in the 44th District State House race between Democratic incumbent Jim Haadsma and Republican challenger Steve Frisbie will stand.
The Calhoun County website continues to show Frisbie with a 58 vote lead, 20,823 to 20,765 over Democratic incumbent Jim Haadsma.
Frisbie was initially called the winner after the unofficial results showed he had a nearly 1,400 vote lead. But a programming error involving a pair of high-speed absentee ballot tabulators in the city of Battle Creek led to almost 2,800 votes not being counted.
Hinkley said in a statement the unofficial numbers will stand in the 44th District State House race and in the race for First District Calhoun County Commissioner as Republican Dominic Oo leads Democrat Rochelle Hatcher by 42 votes, 3,986 to 3,944.
She said this comes, “After canvassing the re-tabulation of the City of Battle Creek’s Absent Voter Counting Board, confirming the totals with the election day tabulation for both tabulators entered, and reviewing the numbers reported by the Calhoun County Clerk’s Office on the election results webpage.”
Hinkley said military and overseas ballots still need to be processed. Once the Calhoun County Board of Canvassers certifies the election by Tuesday, Hinkley says any necessary updates to the website will be made and uploaded as official.
