KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — County Commissioners have voted unanimously for a resolution backing Kalamazoo Schools in their battle with the School Reform Office.
The conflict is over the agency’s proposal to close Woodward and Washington Elementary Schools. They joined the County’s entire Legislative delegation in opposing the closure of the two schools, because of low performance on state achievement tests.
Parents Jim and Dara Seamans delivered 1400 petitions signatures to the SRO on Monday, and the total is now closer to 2,000 signatures.
SRO officials will spend Wednesday at the Washington Writers Academy.
They are observing classrooms, meeting with parents in focus groups and talking to teachers.
