KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo County has tentatively set aside around $5 million to design and build a new animal shelter.
The current 32-year-old shelter on Lake Street has been described as “horrible,” “dangerous” and “crowded,” and healthy animals that get housed there frequently get sick.
“There has been a big push over the past 10 years for a new county animal shelter,” Kalamazoo Humane Society Executive Director Aaron Winters said.
Though the humane society doesn’t operate the shelter, Winters said he looks forward to offering input on a better facility.
The location of the new shelter has yet to be announced.
