KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools trustees are hoping to keep the ball rolling now that all three incumbents have been elected to fill the three expiring terms at the polls on Tuesday.
All three, Carol McGlinn, Juanita Payton, and Takisha Johnson had been appointees to the board to fill temporary vacancies, and now have terms of their own.
McGlinn noted that the voters have approved an all-female board.
Trustee Jennie Hill says applying for an opening is quite a bit simpler than running a campaign for election and it shows a lot of gumption and commitment.
It was the first campaigns for Payton and Johnson, who seemed delighted with their wins.
Board president Ti’Anna Harrison says she thinks there is a difference between being appointed and being elected.
It’s been a rough few years for the trustees between the COVID-19 pandemic, having to replace their top administration, and turnover on the board.
