KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are not only the first line of defense when it comes to fighting crime and fighting fires, they are also first responders on medical emergencies.
That was the role they played at 8 Friday evening when they were dispatched to the YMCA on Maple Street, where a 60-year-old female resident of Parchment had been pulled unconscious from the pool.
The first arriving officer got to the scene within two minutes of the call and found a nurse and a lifeguard had already begun CPR.
The PSO’s joined in until Life Paramedics and an MSU-1 Physician joined the effort.
After 40-minutes of CPR, they got a pulse. She was transported to Bronson Methodist for further treatment.
The investigation revealed the woman suffered a undisclosed medical emergency while swimming.
Her name and current condition are not available.
