DEARBORN (WKZO-AM/FM) — AAA says the average price for a gallon of gas in Michigan is down five cents to $2.26.
Auto club spokesperson Susan Hiltz said that good news is mixed with some bad news, however.
“That’s about 52 cents more than the same time last year,” Hiltz said.
She said driving demand is low and U.S. refineries are again hard at work after OPEC nations opted to cut their production.
“That’s definitely keeping a lid a bit on price increases,” Hiltz said. “If history serves us correctly, we should see prices increase in the coming months because we’re going to switch over to the summer blends and people are going to be driving more.”
GasBuddy.com said the average on Monday was $2.22 in Kalamazoo, $2.26 in Grand Rapids and $2.19 in Lansing.
On Tuesday, the average in Kalamazoo increased to $2.29.
