KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It takes a lot of manpower to conduct an election.
Besides county, city, and township clerks, there is full time staff and hundreds of volunteers who take an oath and work long days to make sure it’s all done properly.
Local clerks operate local polling places, verifying the results they get before sending their results, and all the ballots and associated paperwork to the county clerk’s office, There it goes through a second check, and then its submitted to a bipartisan Board of Canvassers for any recounts and final verification a few days later.
Kalamazoo Mayor Dave Anderson and Vice Mayor Jeanne Hess applauded their efforts at their last meeting.
It’s a process that has become more work intensive, with the addition of early voting and expanded absentee voting.
Here’s Portage Mayor Patricia Randall.
The last presidential election set new records for voter turnout, and there is a good chance this one will be even bigger.
