PORTAGE (WKZO-AM/FM) — Chick-fil-A will open its first franchise in Portage on Thursday morning and Portage Public Safety has already mapped out a strategy to handle the traffic that will be generated by the grand opening.
They will be converting one lane of South Westnedge Avenue into a queue for cars, and there will also be a staging area in the mall parking lot to handle traffic.
The new restaurant is located where Bilbo’s Pizza in a Pan used to be. The southern-style chicken restaurant is offering a free meal each week for a year to the first 100 customers and some have already started to camp out.
If the opening of the Popeye’s on West Main Street last fall is any indication, it could be a week or more before traffic in the area returns to normal.
They are suggesting you download the restaurant’s app to accelerate the ordering process.
