BENTON TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM/FM) — Two men from Berrien Springs and Plainwell are being hailed as heroes after they came to the rescue of Michigan State Trooper Gary Guild as he was losing a fight with two brothers suspected of motorcycle theft along U.S. 31 in Berrien County on Monday morning.
Michigan State Police say 21-year-old Michael Barber and 19-year-old Travis Wise assaulted the trooper following a chase involving Barber on Monday.
Now, the prosecutor’s office says Barber is charged with assault and strangulation, fleeing and eluding, resisting, attempting to disarm a police officer, and receiving a stolen vehicle. His brother, Wise, faces most of the same charges.
Both face up to ten years in prison. Bond for Barber has been set at $100,000, while it’s $75,000 for Wise.
Both are due back in court next month.
