NAPOLEON (WKZO-AM/FM) — Napoleon School officials are reportedly refusing comment after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling went against them this week.
The justices ruled 8-0 that they should have let 13-year-old Ehlena Fry bring her service dog to school. Now, the district may have to pay damages for violating her rights.
Napoleon is a small town just south east of Jackson.
The district originally told the Fry family that they had to exhaust all their administrative options before they could file a discrimination suit in the courts. The school district got a couple of lower courts to agree, but this week the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that is not the case.
That was eight years ago, and the little girl, who suffers from cerebral palsy, has long since transferred to a district where they welcomed Wonder, the goldendoodle, who has since retired.
The family stuck with the case to help out other families who will now find it easier to seek relief from the courts.
