PARCHMENT (WKZO-AM/FM) — Investigators with the Michigan State Police are now reviewing the books in Parchment as part of a criminal investigation.
They’re looking into whether a city employee made personal purchases with a credit card.
The city hired an independent company in January to review the city’s financial documents. That audit has been concluded and the results have been handed over to state detectives.
MSP opted to step in after the city hired the outside firm.
The investigation began after a Parchment resident, after reviewing documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request, suggested money may have missing from the city’s budget.
City officials say no actual money is missing, but wouldn’t comment on how much was improperly charged to city accounts.
