KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The effort by the Stryker Corporation to secure tax cuts and other forms of corporate assistance cleared more hurdles yesterday when the Portage City Council and the Brownfield Redevelopment board approved various requests last night.
Manager Larry Schaffer says the project just off Milham and Lover’s Lane will provide temporary employment for about 300 construction workers and create new permanent jobs with an average salary of $68,000 per year.
It was revealed that the total price tag for the construction of their new research and development facility in Portage will be nearly $155-million, but when you add in all the new infrastructure improvements, it will be closer to $225-million
They plan to begin sitework this spring, and if all goes as planned, have construction done in August of 2019.
