KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Hundreds of women who believe more females should be in public office turned out Sunday at the Bernhard Student Center on the Western Michigan University campus for a lineup of speakers that included U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow.
Also speaking, Michigan gubernatorial candidate Gretchen Whitmer, and a number of women who are serving in local city and county seats. Whitmer said women have seen their numbers shrink in state and national government.
Several speakers said women need to be convinced that they can win, and the statistics suggest they win just as often as men, they just don’t run as often.
The event was sponsored by Women Organizing Michigan, which is holding similar events around the state.
