KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Douglass Community Association wants the City of Kalamazoo to break up the Night Train, saying Public Safety needs to examine what other communities have done to end the rolling parties.
The Night Train is a parade of partiers in cars and SUV’s that speed through the community, mostly the north side, often in reckless fashion, involving drugs and alcohol, blaring music, endangering lives and generally being a nuisance.
Marian Pridgeon with the Douglass organization took their concerns to the City Commission meeting this week.
She says cars come from all over the region, even outside the state. They gather in her neighborhood first, playing loud music, drag racing and loitering.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell says he wishes they had taken their concerns straight to Chief Jeff Hadley rather than wait to bring them to the Commission.
He says that’s what they will be doing.
At least one death, shootings and a lot of property damage has been blamed on the Night Train.
