KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man has been found not guilty by reason of insanity for the 2015 stabbing death of 62-year-old Debra Jean,,
Long time diagnosed schizophrenic Christopher Janssen had escaped from a foster home where he was being treated with anti-psychotic drugs.
He had been off his medications for a while when he reportedly stabbed the older woman, wrapped her body in a blanket and left it with a note reading “Sacrificed” in crayon. Her body was not discovered for another week.
The 27-year-old isn’t free just yet.
He will be sent to the center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti for 60 days of evaluation and a determination will be made if treatment is enough or whether he should be confined in a mental facility until such time as he is safe to release.
