BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Calhoun County Public Health Department reported the county’s 100th COVID-19 related death on Wednesday.
To show how much the virus has spread in recent weeks, it took Calhoun County six months to reach 50 deaths. It then took only one month to reach the second 50 deaths.
Calhoun County has a cumulative total of 4,496 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the Public Health Department.
The recent rise of COVID-19 cases in Calhoun County continues with as many as 90 cases per day continuing to be reported. This case surge is coupled with a high percent positivity rate at 15.1% as the 7-day average as of November 14.
From September to October, Calhoun saw a nearly 250% increase in the number of confirmed cases. As Wednesday, Calhoun County is only 10 cases shy of October’s 31-day total of positive cases.
Calhoun County Health Officer Eric Pessell insists that the best action that individuals can take at this time is to follow the new state M.D.H.H.S. orders that were issued on Sunday which can be found on Michigan.gov/coronavirus.
