MARCELLUS (WKZO-AM/FM) — A 22-year-old Lawton man is jailed for driving while intoxicated after he crashed his car into a swamp in Marcellus.
The vehicle was found submerged in at least four feet of water when Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene near 96th Avenue and 36th Street before 10 p.m. Thursday.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was found wandering east of the crash site. He reportedly had a “strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person,” bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and trouble maintaining his balance, according to a press release from the law enforcement agency.
Sheriff’s investigators later determined the vehicle was traveling eastbound on 96th Avenue when it crossed the center line, ran off the road and crashed.
