VAN BUREN COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — The controversial cable barrier that separates lanes along divided highways in West Michigan is being credited with keeping a semi from crossing the median in Van Buren County Monday afternoon and plowing head long into oncoming traffic. ‘
Deputies say the driver, from Canton, Ohio fell asleep at the wheel and drifted at full speed into the median at about 12:50 pm just east of the 41st Street overpass.
The semi clipped off 45 posts but the cable held and the truck was restrained by the cable.
The 37-year-old driver was cited for careless driving but was otherwise unharmed.
