KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo School Board and “Community in Schools” have joined a chorus of local officials who are critical of the Trump federal budget for a variety of cuts.
They are asking parents and others to join them in putting pressure on elected lawmakers to reject the Trump White House’s proposal to zero-out funding for afterschool programs, in their case.
Superintendent Michael Rice says they shouldn’t have to settle for some of the funding, he wants every dollar restored, saying they don’t get enough to do the job adequately now.
Board Chair Patti Sholler-Barber says these are critical programs that help the kids who need it the most.
Dr. Rice says his contacts in Washington are saying that the Trump Budget Proposal will be dead on arrival at Capitol Hill, but you never know.
