EAST LANSING, MI — One of Michigan State University’s largest benefactor families is stepping up to the plate again. The school announced Tuesday that Justin Ishbia is donating $10 million to the MSU basketball and basketball programs. Ishbia is the co-owner of the Phoenix Suns with his brother, Mat Ishbia.
The donation will include $8.5 million for men’s basketball and baseball, along with $1.5 million in previous Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) payments, according to the school’s press release.
A portion of the gift will go to the baseball program and bring upgrades to the school’s baseball facilities at McLane Baseball Stadium. The deal includes naming rights for the field at the stadium, according to MSU. Jeff Ishbia Field will be named in honor of Justin and Mat’s father, Jeff, who founded the family’s company United Wholesale Mortgage.
