LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The Michigan State Senate voted Tuesday, the 28th to declare Wednesday the 29th as Vietnam Veterans Day in Michigan.
The date marks the day that we lost that war, and the final troops helicoptered out of the country.
Senator Margaret O’Brien Co-sponsored the legislation after hearing from a Portage girl that Michigan was one of only a handful of states that didn’t have a Vietnam Day.
Michigan lost 2,650 men in that war, but still has a little less than a quarter million Vietnam Vets living in the state. Wreath laying ceremonies were held on the WMU campus and in Bronson Park yesterday afternoon.
