KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo City Commission has unanimously approved dipping into the Foundation for Excellence for their first major aspirational campaign to improve the city.
They will spend about $900,000 on several summer programs for children.
Vice Mayor Don Cooney says the largest program will not just provide summer jobs for about 350 teens, but teach them the skills for a lifetime of employment.
They aren’t new programs, but they will be greatly expanded with the additional funding. Commissioners plan a work session Monday to talk about other aspirational projects.
