DEARBORN (WKZO AM/FM) — Gas prices continue their relentless rise to what is expected to be a peak sometime around Memorial Day.
Nationally the climb has been primarily driven by the price of crude oil according to pollster Trilby Lundberg.
The average this week nationwide is $2.43 after a hike of a dime over the last two weeks.
She says summer blends and increasing demand are also driving prices up.
AAA of Michigan says prices have gone up even faster in the Great Lakes area due to unplanned mechanical issues at refineries and pipeline problems.
Prices have jumped 12-cents in Michigan in the last week to $2.57 on average.
Both say heightened tensions in the Middle East have had little to no effect.
