PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Teachers in Portage Public Schools will be eligible to receive $200 a month to pay off their student loans.
The school board approved the measure and the payments are funded through a Michigan Department of Education grant that gave districts statewide $24.4 million for the loan repayments.
District officials say 62 teachers applied and received the reimbursement.
The grant is called the Student Loan Repayment Program and was created with the intent to keep teachers on the job.
The money is only allowed to be used on a student loan payment.
