KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo city commissioners could finalize a plan for a pilot program to clear city sidewalks of snow in the wintertime tonight.
It calls for increasing the number of sidewalks the city staff clears, and by changing how they encourage homeowners to clear the walks in front of their homes.
Mayor Dave Anderson says he hopes they can convince residents that it’s a demonstration that they are good neighbors and good citizens.
It would bring an end to the city issuing tickets to homeowners that don’t do the job, increase communications, help the elderly and infirm find alternative solutions, and hire private contractors to do some of the work.
It’s up for a vote tonight.
