KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Kalamazoo city commissioners will vote Monday night on whether to sell Parking Ramp No. 4 at North Rose Street and Kalamazoo Avenue.
It’s a small piece of a huge development effort downtown.
PlazaCorp has offered three million for the ramp because they plan to refurbish the Old Masonic Temple, build a 118-room Hotel next door and add 22 appartments to the Arcadia North Building.
Assistant City Manager Jerome Kisscorni said the ramp is nearly half empty most days. He also said the city is getting a good offer.
Plazacorp spokesman Andy Wenzel said everyone will come out ahead on this deal. The city will get a parking ramp put back on the tax roll with a guarantee of available parking for the next few years. Plazacorp will get what they need — and that’s parking.
Between this, the county’s plans for Arcadia West and work on The Exchange at South Rose Street and Michigan Avenue, there could be a lot of construction cranes downtown over the next two to three years.
