KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A fire in Kalamazoo’s Winchell neighborhood gutted a home on Crest overlooking Woods Lake Monday morning.
The flames might have caused even more damage if a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer who was standing outside Engine Station #7 about a block and a half away had not spotted smoke and triggered a response.
The home was fully engulfed and if anyone had been home, rescue would have been impossible. Apparently neither of the occupants was home midmorning Monday when the fire began.
Insurance adjusters will be out today to determine if the home is salvageable and the fire marshal will be looking for clues on the cause.
