BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The Battle Creek Police Department responded to two separate gun-related incidents early Friday morning.
A 24-year-old man is in custody following reports of shots fired into a home in the first block of Laura Lane.
Police were dispatched at about 3:00 a.m.. They found several bullet holes in the windows of a home which was occupied by two adults and four children but no one was struck by the gunfire.
The occupants told police they heard a knock at the door, followed by gunfire.
They added that after several shots were fired through the windows, two men kicked the front door open and shot once at the 31-year-old man, who was not hit.
The suspects then fled in a vehicle which was stopped a short time later by Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies.
The vehicle was occupied by two men and two women. A 9mm pistol was retrieved from under the driver’s seat and 9mm casings were found at the scene.
The driver was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon, assault with intent, and on an unrelated warrant.
In the second Friday morning incident involving a gun, a 35-year-old man sustained a bullet wound to the abdomen near Grenville Street and Lathrop Avenue.
Police from Battle Creek and Emmett Township Department of Safety responded.
The man told officers he was shot while riding his motorcycle in the area. Police say he was uncooperative and did not provide suspect information. He also refused to be transported to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was treated at the scene by Life Care ambulance and the Battle Creek Fire Department.
