BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM/FM) — Battle Creek officials say they believe the body found in the Kalamazoo River early Sunday morning by a fisherman belonged to Cortez Lewis.
Tests will be conducted to positively confirm his identity, but all the evidence so far points to it being the Detroit man.
A fisherman on a boat near Stringham Road and Jackson Street noticed the body early Sunday. It was floating close to the riverbank where the river bends. It had been snagged by a fallen limb.
That location is about a mile downstream from the spot where the Hyundai driven by 31-year-old Cortez Lewis of Detroit was found after he crashed into the river in early March. His body was not found in the vehicle.
They are saying that the body was wearing Lewis’s clothes and the wallet found on the body contained his identification, and the physical charactorists match Lewis.
