OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a pair of shooting incidents in Oshtemo Township, but they aren’t sure whether they are related or not.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday deputies responded to the 5000 block of West KL Avenue. A juvenile male had called stating that he had been shot. First aid was rendered on scene and the victim was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
KCSO says it appears the victim had been shot in the nearby area and walked to where he was found by first responders.
While deputies were still on scene, several gunshots were heard in the area. After responding to the area of the gunshots, evidence was located confirming that it was gunfire they heard. Not long after the gunshots, deputies were notified by a third party that a male had contacted his family stating that he was shot and in an apartment in the area.
They says the area was thoroughly canvassed and multiple attempts were made to contact the male, but he was unable to be located and did not reveal himself to law enforcement.
A witness reported that a male, claiming to have been shot, ran from the area after she indicated she was calling 9-1-1.
The Sheriff’s Office says at this time, it is unknown if these two incidents are related, and it is also unknown if these incidents are related to the shootings that occurred recently in surrounding jurisdictions.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the Oshtemo Fire Department, and Life EMS.
