KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — Over 30 southwest Michigan restaurants and shops will participate Thursday in a “Dining Out for Life” fundraiser to benefit a local non-profit that helps in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
David Watt is with Community AIDS Resource and Education Services.
“We’re your local HIV-related service agency,” Watt said. “We have case managers for people living with HIV to help them remove barriers toward treatment.”
He said participating locations Thursday will donate a quarter of food and drink sales.
“Even people who don’t know about CARES who happen to eat out that night, the restaurant owners are being very generous in donating all those proceeds,” Watt said.
Locally, the event is in its ninth year. Watt said restaurants have noticed the value of participation.
“Restaurant owners get new patrons and this is a way for them to support our community,” Watt said. “We also find that people might eat a little more or drink a little more.”
