KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Timing is everything, including finding the cheapest fuel prices when it’s time to fill up. Gasbuddy.com says on average Thursdays are the worst day of the week to buy gas if you are looking for bargains.
Analyst Patrick Dehaan says they crunched three years of data and found that the cheapest prices were generally available on Monday, and he adds that is primarily true Monday mornings, because stocks are depleted and markets have been closed.
If retailers are underpriced, they don’t know it yet.
He says gas prices don’t necessarily jump on Thursday because they know you have plans for the beach this weekend.
They raise prices then because the Federal Enery Information Agency releases highly controversial statistics on gas and crude oil stocks on Wednesday indicating where the whether the market is good or bad.
He says that can tend to raise prices on Thursday.
He says there are no guarantees gas prices will follow that pattern every week, but over time, it could save you a few bucks.
